The Rogue River trip is an exhilarating scout experience. This will be Troop 787’s eighth trip on this tour. In addition to rafting down Class 3 and 4 rapids, the itinerary includes sightseeing in San Francisco Bay, Central California, Northern California, Mt Shasta, Pacific Coast Highway, Redwood Forest, and Yosemite.
The Rogue River runs from Crater Lake to the Pacific Ocean approximately 20 miles north of the California/Oregon border. The “Wild and Scenic” portion of the Rogue River runs from Grants Pass west to Foster Bar. The river barrels through a 2000 ft gorge for approximately 50 miles. Our itinerary will be 5 days/4 nights on the river. During the trip, we’ll visit several sites on the river: 1800’s era Silver Mine, Multi-level cascading 300 ft waterfall, Zane Grey’s cabin, and canyoneering (rock-based flume ride into the river).
During this trip, we’ll spend 2-3 nights in San Francisco, several nights in state parks, and 2 nights in Yosemite National Park. At Yosemite, we will camp outside the National Forest and do day trips into Glacier Point (7000 ft elevation), Half Dome, 5 Water Falls (Yosemite, Bridal, Vernal, etc), and view El Capitan.
The Crew Size on the river is limited to a max of 20.
Currently, we are planning 2 crews with the Toxic Arrows and Lightning Wolves taking crew leads.
We need to pay deposits of $1000/pp by October 15 to secure National Park permits for each crew.
We will book travel in groups(Pods) of 6 (2 adults, 4 scouts). Each pod works with the pod leader to book their airfare. This allows families to put airfare on credit cards, use airline miles, points from credit cards, etc. All should plan to arrive at the (proposed Residence Inn) Hotel near San Francisco Airport by 2 PM on Day 1 of their respective itinerary.
